Addressable optical-plus-heat detector that combines smoke with rate-of-rise, aimed at hotel bedrooms and other nuisance-prone spaces.
The detector runs two independent signals into an onboard microcontroller: an optical signal representing the smoke level near the head, and a temperature signal representing the air temperature near it.
The important part is what happens to the temperature signal. The processing extracts only rate-of-rise information to combine with the optical signal, which means the detector will not respond to a slow temperature increase even if the temperature eventually reaches a high level. It is watching the rate of change, not absolute heat. A large, sudden temperature change can produce an alarm on its own, without smoke, if it is sustained for 20 seconds.
That optical-plus-rate-of-rise combination is what gives the XP95 MultiSensor its broad fire sensitivity while resisting nuisance triggers — and it is also why it should not be treated as a substitute for a heat detector in a position that needs one.
