It uses two signalling technologies: IDNet 2 (addressable detection, up to 250 devices per loop) and IDNAC — a powered addressable notification SLC driving TrueAlert ES self-testing horns, strobes and speakers that automate the periodic appliance testing codes otherwise require by hand. Networking is via ES Net (Ethernet/fibre) with native IP ports; programming is done on a Windows PC tool, not the front panel.

Self-testing is the clearest differentiator. Simplex TrueAlert ES appliances test themselves and report results, automating the periodic notification-appliance testing that otherwise needs technicians on site — a major lifecycle-cost saving in large or hard-to-access buildings.
Programming openness favours Notifier: the AFP-3030 edits from the front-panel keypad while still protecting, plus non-proprietary VeriFire Tools, so multiple independent distributors can service the same panel. The 4100ES uses a proprietary Windows programmer and isn’t field-programmed, tending to tie service to Johnson Controls channels.
