Frequently asked questions

What has to be on an Australian tax invoice?

For sales under $1,000 a tax invoice generally needs: the words “Tax invoice”, your business name, your ABN, the date, a description of what was sold, the GST amount (or a statement that the total includes GST), and the total. For sales of $1,000 or more it also needs the buyer’s identity or ABN. Always check the current ATO requirements.

Do I need to charge GST?

Only if you’re registered for GST, which is required once your turnover reaches $75,000. If you’re registered, add 10% GST and show it on the invoice. If you’re not, don’t charge GST and don’t call it a “tax invoice”.

Can I download it as a PDF?

Yes — the free generator builds the invoice live and you can save it as a PDF straight from your browser, with no watermark and no sign-up.
