Prime cost (PC) item

An allowance in a contract for an item not yet selected, like a tap or fitting.

A prime cost item is a budget allowance for a supply item the client hasn’t chosen yet — fittings, tiles, tapware. The contract carries an estimated amount, and the price is adjusted up or down once the actual item is selected.
