VRV — the platform that named the category

Daikin introduced VRV in 1982: multiple indoor units on a shared refrigerant circuit, with inverter-driven outdoor units modulating refrigerant flow to match the building’s instantaneous load. The concept — now generically “VRF” — became the dominant mid-size commercial air conditioning architecture worldwide, and Daikin has iterated the platform continuously for four decades.
